that may not seem like much. for any one who has lost or gained 10 lbs( or more) you know what a difference it makes. even if the poundage isn't noticeable to others YOU feel different, your clothes fit differently, YOU can tell.
one thing that i strive to convey is that it is not about looks but more about how you feel about yourself and how your body responds in kind. do you feel healthy , energetic, self assured?
well i am not feeling my best right now with this nagging 10 lbs. so after spending the past two months half heartily trying(not really) i've decided it's time to set some goals, make a plan , and stick to it(this time) .
even though i am staying firmly rooted in the idea that we can achieve perfection as we grow older. we shouldn't give in to the norm of deterioration just because everyone else believes this to be true. i will admit however it has been a bit harder to shed these pounds than in the past.
hitting 40(shhh) may have something to do with it, maybe. that and my hormones. in the past i would simply up my exercise a few days and poof. or modify my eating habits for a bit and poof. poof no more... but like i said my attempt thus far has been a bit undisciplined.
it all starts with SUGAR! sugar is my vice and i need to give it up ,now! problem is that this is a highly addictive substance that changes mood and alters our perceptions. that's why i like it and that's why i need to kick it.
this is not going to be easy for any one ; myself or those around me. i've tried before and gotten close but no way completely given it up and not return.
the second factor is my motivation at the gym. i need to make it a priority again. no matter what. after spending 6 hours in the gym i really just want a change of scenery. i want to leave work just like any one else who's done for the day. short term i'm trying to save a few dollars so i'm not going to try and find a class to take right now but rather find the discipline with in myself to do what i need to do to succeed.
so what is that exactly? well this aspect concludes the three obstacles that are before me in reaching my goal. 1. my sugar addiction, 2. my need to exercise regularly, and 3. creation of goals and a plan. i'm a fly by night kind of person. i enjoy the adventure of life . i like to see where things take me. that way is not going to serve my purpose however, so here goes...
the goal; loose 10 lbs by the time i go to jazzfest in new orleans*
(yes this is unrealistic since that is only two weeks away)
*we'll call this the jump start motivational "goal"
what it will help-
1 i can think about the warmer climate and my wanting to wear less clothing and wanting to feel good about how i look.
2 i will be seeing many people i haven't seen in quite awhile and do not want to be feeling self conscious about my appearance.
3. i need to spend the next two weeks following through on my plan. having a short term goal will keep me focused on getting it done. it's tangible. by the end of the two weeks the habit of regular exercise will be re-established. and thus the end goal will be that much easier to attain regardless of how much i've actually lost at that point.
the plan; working out for a minimum of 30 minutes - maximum of 75 minutes.
everyday for the next two weeks.
from there on out minimum of 5 days a week. working out can include outdoor activities and is not limited to weights or machines at the gym.
workouts in the gym will be focused and varied from shortest (weights or cardio only) to longest length sessions (including weights and cardio together)
my anaerobic exercises will be done in a circuit style to keep it as aerobic as possible.
i will try to always involve some body weight only exercises or more plyometric explosive moves to achieve the above statement.
my work out theme; always moving no distractions no rest until it's done
what will help-
1 making time to work out a priority by writing an appointment down as i would a client. making sure that if need be i will go to the gym earlier so i make sure it gets done. or i will stay as late as necessary . (by setting the js goal which is a short period i feel this is realistic)
2 going to work out with a clearly designed plan that is non negotiable. by being able to go into automatic pilot when i go workout i don't waste any time and i'm in and out less chance of skipping or burn out
3 making this commitment public so that i feel i will be held accountable for my actions. people often assume i spend my days working out at the gym with my clients. so not true. yet we need to be a walking, talking motivational example of the benefits of exercise. so here in this medium for whomever may be reading this...(hi mom) i will be honest and confess all.
